Avoiding Red Wine Stains
Woops, spilled a little wine? Not to worry. Blot, never scrub or rub, up all the excess wine on carpet or clothing. Then pour a generous amount of white wine or club soda (not seltzer) on the spot and blot until the stain goes away. The sooner treatment is started the greater the probability of removing the wine stain before it has a chance to set.
Now, if after the club soda treatment, the wine spot is still visible, there are still options: a product called “Wine Away” which really works, “Wine Out” by Goo Gone or a solution of mild detergent and hydrogen peroxide. These commercial products or the detergent and hydrogen peroxide can discolor the fabric or carpet, so test it on an out-of-sight place. Remember, you're still blotting, not rubbing and move quickly.
