Grains Barley malt grains are used by homebrewers to add grain flavorscolors and additional body to beers made with malt extracts. Most grains must be cracked and mashed (cooked) to extract these qualities. Some grains are diastatic (i.e. they contain atural enzymes which can convert grain starch to fermentable sugars). The presence of these enzymes is necessary in making all grain beers. The color composition specified in Lovibond (L) has been included. We offer custom milling for only $.10 per pound upon request. Bulk grains are described as 21 pounds or more of the same grain. Larger quantities may require special order (approximately two weeks). This table shows some of the grains we carry.
