Fermentation Locks
Airlocks/fermentation locks are essential to making good wines and beer. They prevent insects spoilage organisms air-born yeast and bacteria from getting into the fermenter while allowing the carbon dioxide produced during fermentation to escape. Airlocks MUST be kept half full; for wine and mead fill with sulphite solution; for beer fill with tap water. An alternative to water and sulfite is glycerine. Nothing grows in it and it evaporates much slower than water or sulfite solution.
The sizes specified on our locks are the size of the gum rubber stopper. The lock body is a three piece unit with removable cap and bobber for easy filling and cleaning.
