For a beer to be called a Pale ale is somewhat misleading. Firstit is not very pale in color when compared to typical lagers and secondthe original English ale was an all malt beverage that contained no hops. Of course hops are one of the outstanding characteristics of today ’ s pale ales. The original pale ales are believed to have been first brewed in BurtonEngland. The actual origin is unknown since this style evolved at a time when there were few written records and most of the brewing was carried out in the home or small brewpubs. Pale ale replaced porter and Britians favorite beer and has held on to be the most important top-fermented obstacle to the domination of the beer world by lager styles.
